Blog Status: Delayed

Every traveler is familiar with delays; they are an annoying but sometimes unavoidable reality. My promised series of blog posts about my December-January trip to Morocco have already been delayed by a couple months and I regret to announce that it will probably still be a couple more months before takeoff.

I had an amazing trip that took me from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert and onwards to Fes and beyond. I took tons of great photos–which you will still get to see eventually–and I took notes on many of the details of my daily itinerary that I might otherwise have forgotten. Unfortunately, when I got back home on New Year’s Day and had to return to my teaching job the very next morning, I found myself slammed with responsibilities and no time to write for the blog or select, edit, and upload the best of my photos. When February and then March came around and I still hadn’t gotten around to it, I told myself I would do it during Spring Break. Well, here I am on the last day of Spring Break and I’m afraid that I still need more time. I have a lot on my plate for the rest of this school year, so realistically I don’t expect to publish my posts until June.

That being said, the posts will still be coming, and since most of you haven’t seen any of my photos or heard anything about the trip since I went on it, it will be just as new to you when you see it as if I had published it in January. So check back in late June for a 3-part series on Morocco. I hope you will find it worth the wait.

Beyond those posts, I’m not quite sure what’s next. I started this blog as an alternative to spending time on social media. However, I now realize that it’s nearly impossible to grow a large audience from scratch without utilizing social media. I’ve also come to realize that I don’t have time to write for the blog every month or even every two months, at least not with the longform narrative format that I’ve chosen to use to tell my travel stories. Initially, I thought that in the interval between reports on new trips I would be writing travel itineraries and tips about other places that I have visited in the past. But my teaching job and other commitments don’t really leave me with enough time to do that on a regular basis.

So this summer I will decide if and how to move forward with this project. But rest assured that at the very least, you will get to read about my Morocco journey and see photos from the trip. Think of the timetable as less of a Marrakesh Express, and more like the long wait for Part 2 of Villeneuve’s Dune. It may take a while to see the light of day, but when the blog posts emerge like giant sandworms bursting out of the desert, the anticipation will make it all the more impactful!

  1. I look forward to your June 3-part Morocco travelogue. Your trips are so interesting! I love the photos, you have such a good eye for content and composition. And the way you write makes me feel as if I was there. It will definitely be worth the wait!! Thank you for the update.
